2015 is off to a roaring start as 496 volunteers partnered with KAH-Louisville to package 105,528 nutrient-rich meals. It's the most meals packaged in January since the KAH-Louisville startup. Events included MLK Day Service Projects sponsored by The Temple, Bardstown Rotary Club, and Bethlehem High School.
Churches and community organizations in Harrison County, IN created more than 55,000 meals on Jan 24th. Youth groups from St. Aloysius, Christ Church United Methodist, and Holy Trinity Parish packed 13,000 meals on Jan 31st. Teams from Resurrection Lutheran Church, Male HS Special Friends, and Bellarmine University also helped multiply the meals.
On December 31, volunteers gathered in Grayson, KY and packaged 28,944 KAH meals. The year-end event pushed the 2014 total to more than 1,000,000 meals for the first time in KAH-Louisville's three year history. More than 6,500 volunteers participated in packaging events during 2014.
More than 800 students, staff, and community volunteers gathered at The Academy @ Shawnee on Monday, Dec 15th and packaged 105,780 fortified meals. The meals will bring nourishment and hope to hungry children and families in Haiti, Liberia, and Guatemala.
The project also provided an opportunity for student volunteers to assist their own families. Each participant received a basket filled with food items and a $20 ValuMarket grocery card.
